The Leicester Visually Impaired Bowls Club have just reached the end of their 2024 outdoor season.
Which has once again provided an opportunity for visually impaired people to take part in a sport and play against sighted opposition all over Leicestershire. This demonstrates that if you put your mind to something you can achieve it.
We have enjoyed mid-week afternoon friendly fixtures at clubs as far away as Wymeswold, Quorn and Wycliffe amongst others.
We are always made very welcome wherever we are invited to play, and this year has been no exception.
We have welcomed new members and sadly said goodbye to others.
The standard of bowling continues to improve as more and more people become involved.
A massive thank you as always to our very kind-hearted group of volunteers who not only help people get to the venues but play and help the visually impaired during the afternoon.
It is always a very rewarding and enjoyable afternoon for all involved.
To everyone who has helped to make this season possible may I offer a sincere thank you.
If you are reading this, maybe you would like to be involved in 2025 either by playing, volunteering or helping with any administration Etc, all help is appreciated.
Also a big thank you to Ulverscroft Large Print Books for their continuing support with funding.
Best Wishes
Captain Chris Hammond
Captain’s Annual Report
The Leicester Visually Impaired Bowls Club has had a great year. We have been on East Midlands Today and Radio Leicester in April and May to promote the club.
This season we have had some exciting wins and a few losses, met many lovely people and have enjoyed every minute of it.
Unfortunately, we have had to say a goodbye to a few volunteers and we thank them for all their sterling efforts over many years.
We have been fortunate that towards the end of the season some old and some new volunteers have come forward to assist us.
For the last 5 games I was asked to take over the role of Fixture Secretary and I would like to sincerely thank all who have come to my aid and assisted me in arranging these matches.

I would like to thank all at LVIBC for all their help in my acceptance of my sight loss, which happened very quickly and left me feeling very depressed and in a very bad place. Chris invited me to a bowls match and asked me to join in, which I did and enjoyed it very much thanks to all the volunteer drivers and helpers. This helped me accept my sight loss, as this gives me the chance to compete on equal footing. Now I look forward to the next march thank you so much.

Bowling with LVIBC, has given me another circle of friends. It has taken my life in a new direction. It gave me the confidence whilst on holiday in October to play bowls with complete strangers. It was a great experience.
